[1967] Stoics - Enough Of What I Need

The track is awaiting you in really nice quality, not like all the vinyl rips, that are circulating here araound, ... I mean, they are better than nothing, but with this title as example, you know, what I mean ;)... the guitar riffs are giving a lot of rythm, the voice, surrounds it and the backchor for the refrain still makes it more psychedelic: the floating feeling. Some of their tracks can be found on the Mindrocker, the Acid Visions and the Teenage Shutdown Vol. 10. On the bands lifetime, they only released on single "Enough of What I Need / Hate". William Ash (guitar) later went to The Argyles and The Children (1968, Rebirth), where members from the 13th Floor Elevators played after they disbanded in 1968. The Golden Dawn was also a band, where the Rubayyat sourced their members from.

I know, it sucks, but the exact record date out there. the band never rleased it on 45, and also they propaply never did an album. 1966 is again just guessed. Ok, and now I will give you some lines I found on yoututbe about the girl, that is singing on this heavy-drum garage-psych track:
Linda Pierre King was a folk-rock singer from Houstan,Texas.Eight of her recordings are featured on The Heartbeats & Added Texas Girls of the 60s/We had the Beat compilation. She moved to New York and frequented the famous beatnik hangout, Beanie Baby's Java Hut. The "king of barbershop" Norm Wooster fell in love with her singing and caused a musical transformation within him. She was also a follower of the individualist philosopher Ayn Rand. The Outcasts, who backed her on this organ-driven track, are not the legendary 1523 Blair band.

Comming from El Paso, Texas, they only released one Single in 1966 "Take It From Me / My Love". This track is from the Acid Visions Vol. 1, so I think it was prev. unreleased. here you've got the only really psychedelic song from his 1970 Album "The Visit from Bob Smith". The rest is Classic Rock / Westcoast Rock with some seldome fuzzin' guitars. [1967] Kim Fowley - Reincarnation

well, the cover is an imagination of love, peace, incense and pot. The soft psychedelic sound of the album really fits in. this song is the best one from this (his first) LP and a bit different from the rest, lets say, more garage-psych like. the rest of the album has nice playing on the instrument but very poor vocal quality. also the mixing could had done better than it is. Maybe a remastered Re-Issue from the original reels could fix that so I would rate the album with 4/5, not with 3/5 stars.

If the Doors & Kennelmus had a baby, the Strangers Family Band is their love child!

At seven tracks this EP never wears out welcome, nor-just like a good Stranger, overstays. From the mood-setting/changing opener "Enochian", (well, it would be an opener wouldn't it?), we know we're entering another world. Sound creating a travel ticket. Perfectly segueing into "Girl I've Been Taken," from all sides of the spectrum-in my Sennheisers, this reminds me substantially of those 70s desert-dwelling, peyote-munching psychsters Kennelmus. That's a compliment where I come from.Stylistically, this track also seems to lean more on the early 70s period of psychedelic music.

Track 3, "Wooden Hands", further bids you to come into their funhouse mirror world o' weird. A Music Hall romp with horn-backed chorus.

Track 4, "No One Sees Her", maintains the vibe of the prior tack, set up nicely by a small-stringed instrument-ukelele? Mandolin? and shuffles along right past the tilt-o-whirl, a la The Seeds "Nobody Spoil My Fun."

"Strange Transmission" should be familiar to regular readers of this blog for its inclusion on this year's Summer Solstice, Volume II compilation. Opening with SITAR (!), this is pure Doorsian wobble, a long-lost companion and heir to "The End." At seven minutes it's also in the right proportion, too.

"Tangerine", to these ears wouldn't sound outta' place-at all, on the Brian Jonestown Massacre's albums, say circa Methodrone. Complete with Anton-like affected Engle-accented vocals.

The EP ends with "Beware The Autumn People", a trip into an alterniverse where the only song anyone's ever heard is "Soul Kitchen"! Yet these guys manage to somehow break the stranglehold. A slow-burning center to propel it and a swagger which demands attention from your third eye.

I'll stand by my assertion, made earlier, these guys are a product of a Doors-Kennelmus tryst, made one night out near the old prison town of Yuma, a bag of peyote being passed around, and after enough digestion the guitars and percussion come out as a crescent moon slowly rises overhead...those sounds? They entered the Noosphere and were caught in transmission many moons later by a group of guys trying. Trying. As long as they're doing so I'll keep buying the string of tickets from the barker...
