I don't know, why it took me so long to discover this great band! on their debut album from 1968 they combine the early Jefferson Airplane sound with that of the psychedelic songs from the Peanut Butter Conspiracy. Also a heavy load Psychedelic Folk-Rock rythmns mashed up by Garage Rock. The song you can listen to above is a nice example for their sound (totally stoned!!). Get the complete album if you can!
While others buzzed within the hippie epicenters of Haight Street and the Lower East Side, Silmaril formed in haunted, industrial Milwaukee. Other bands might have met at a love-in; Silmaril were friends from a Catholic youth retreat bound together by a doomed figure in the eccentric madman tradition of Syd Barrett, Roy Harper and Mel Lyman by the name of Matthew Peregrine. The Voyage of Icarus captures the dark, mysterious, and achingly beautiful acid folk & Christian themed psychedelic sounds that emanated from 1973's privately pressed album, Given Time... Or the Several Roads, and their dormant, unreleased follow up No Mirrored Temple. (~Clear-Spot)
In 1967/68, Big Jim Sullivan from the Middlesex, UK managed to record three very groovy Sitar albums. Sadly this was not meant to hold on. He played as a session-musician and did every sucking job he could get. Well, he played for the Hermint's Hermint's and the Kinks in studio, but it looks like that was only a job for him, nothing a idealist would be happy with. So it came that he even played 9 years for James Last, what is really strange while thinking back of those three first Sitar-Psych LP's. Anyway, this song is just a damn good piece of Acid Folk, enjoy!
It's 1967 again and "Fapardokly" is actually the album title, but the producer forgot to put Merrell & The Exiles on the cover as the band name! I know it's confusing. The LP is actually a compilation of Merrell Fankhauser & The Exiles tunes written & recorded from 1964-1967. This song is like the never ending ecstasy from "8 Miles High" followed by some wah-ing psyh-pop to fade out at least.
It's 1967 and the Peanut Butter Conspiracy hit the peak of psychedelic music before they fall into a melting pot of annoying pop. this track is also taken from the "Spreading from the Ashes" compilation that feat. a lot of nice archival material by the PBC. Enjoy!
One of the Obskure occurrences of the Japanese underground-acid-culture is the group "Ghost" along with LSD March, Kawabata Makoto, Vava Kitora and many many more... It's hard to look through these scene, as only some of them are known in Europe and America and the most of the releases is not avaible outside Asia. If you got some tips, post them in comments!
The atmosphere of this tracks is filled with surrounding traditional instrumental sound, Comus playing and psychedelic winds blowing through the landscape of your mind.
Two years after the band was found in Minneapolis in 1966, a live set got recorded and released in 1999 by the Arf!Arf! label in combination with their 1967 album "Distortions". This track really grooves and is ffor now the most psychedelic track I have heared by this garage rock band. the organ is played in that mystic style and the way they are using their electric guitars just reminds of the Doors. Highly recommended!
This song was released on the only single by this Miami based band. lysergic organ grooves and psychedelic guitar jams bringing this to the top of underground 60's psych! check it out!!!
some psychotic Psychedelic Rock from the "Psychedelic Moods Vol. 2". Here are some infos on the band by Psych-Spaniolos: "This outfit was based in Phoenix, Arizona between 1966-68 and were earlier known as The Mile Ends. Their first 45 contains the fine psychedelic punk of The Other Sidewalk, and the flip features sitars and has a mellow trippy feel, with the vocalist wishing that he'd never come down... After such an interesting start, they went on to chart regionally with their People In The Street 45, but their album had a strong country influence and is largely dispensable. Most of the band later went on to greater things - Black and McFadden joined Goose Creek Symphony and later worked for Linda Ronstadt. Anderson later joined Beans who evolved into The Tubes."
Clive's Original Band's first album is including this mystic acid folk track. All in all I can recommend their debut more than their 2nd album. The first one "is not as polished as the next and is also a more intimate work" (~comusduke)
After he left shool with 17, he travelled to Italy planning to study there. Two years later his debut was released with a Barabajagal-like cover art. "The Witch" combines Mark Fry's Songwriting with raga-sitar-grooves, flute and sweet drums. An Acid Folk masterpiece!
The Black Angels are one of the finest bands growing out of the new Texan psychedelic Scene. Together with the Golden Animals, All in the Golden Afternoon and The Strangers Family Band they played on the Austin Psych Fest in April 2010. Beneth the drony sound you can hear some tingling sitar and trancy vocals. Their two album are avaible in our onlineshop on CD and Vinyl aswell as latest 7" Single from 2008. Enjoy the sound!
Till now Lana is only know as a member of the Fuzztones and former Bonniwell Music Machine organist. Here we've got their new single from 2010. A bit of punky a load of garage and all of that swimming in an ocean of acid-psych. check it out!
Paths of Prakriti is a two manband with frontman Jon Reier and Ole Kristain Malmedal from Rancho Relaxo, who's new Album will be released in some days on my Label. The duo from Trondheim, Norway are presenting us delightful Raga Psychedelia. Their debut Album is set to be released in near future. I'm curious about it!
The Velvet Illusions from Los Angeles released this song on one of their 1967 singles. The B-Side was "She Was The Only Girl". Sadly the band existed only two years (1966-68). Enjoy this Garage-Psych track!
Nalle is Glasgow based band feat. Hanna Tuulikki. Alongside Chris Hladowski (bouzouki, saz, clarinet et al) and Aby Vulliamy (viola, piano, voice et al) the songs are built around Hanna’s unbridled vocals and guitar playing, with occasional sojourns on recorder and Finnish kantele. Recent recordings have also seen Nalle expand to include Ben Reynolds on harmonica and double bass, Raymond MacDonald on sax, Peter Nicholson on double bass and Alex Neilson on Drums. The music draws on a whole gamut of musical traditions, weaving instrumental tapestries around hypnotic, almost ballad-like vocal narratives, cultivating a deeply personal and idiosyncratic approach that outweighs the sum of its parts.
Hanna Tuulikki and Chris Hladowski, who are both playing in a the UK band "the Family Elan", will delight us with a magic Incredible String Band-like track for an upcomming psychedelic compilation on Merlins Nose Records.
One of the classic psych singles to come out of Florida was 'Anxious Color' by The Painted Faces. They were short lived but left behind some fine singles. Their first 45 was released locally on Qualicon. This coupled the moody folk rock lament 'Things We See' with 'I Want You'... The former turning up again as the flip to the Manhattan release.
'Anxious Color' is where it's at though with raga sounding guitar leads giving the song a psychedelic sound. According to the liners of the Distortion compilation this 45 was a big hit in South West Florida, hitting number 1 on some stations. It even got extensive airplay on Los Angeles stations making the Top 10. This was probably due to their Mike Curb connections. (~ Flower Bomb Songs)
John and Philipa Cooper came from Johannesburg in South Africa. But they were not alone, ... Julian Laxton (lead guitar), Art de Villiers (acoustic guitar), Bob Hill (bass), Werner Krupski (keyboards), Francesco (fiddle), Ivor Back (drums), Rory Blackwell (tambourine) helped them out, so they had a nice band together. to categorize their music, I would propose to call it droney acid folk. Someone is playing sitar and robust bass lines are holding the trancy vocals and the psychedelic organ.
